What is a cookie, and why do I need to have cookies enabled on my browser?
A "cookie" is a small piece of information which a web server can store with a browser and later retrieve from that browser. The TFT site uses cookies to ensure that online course participants have the necessary software and settings to participate in courses, and also enables the TFT site to prepare customize pages for you based on your browser type or other information you may have provided the Web site.  The TFT site does not use cookies to store any other information about you.

Despite popular myths,
  • Cookies cannot be used to get information from your hard drive.
  • A web site can only read the cookies that it puts into your browser.
  • A cookie cannot be used as a virus.

Each time you visit a web page, the browser itself retains no information about your preferences or settings.  For this reason, the Web page server has no memory of what pages it has sent to a user previously or anything about your previous visits. A cookie is a mechanism that allows the server to store its own information about a user on the user's own computer.
